HUMILITY MONTH: DAY 9: “A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being.” –James E. Faust

Thank you Mr. Faust! I know that any modicum of humility I possess is the direct result of two things; getting my ass kicked in when I am running on self-will and the daily gratitude letter I write every day. It has changed my life.

The ass kicking is the job of the Universe. I know we are all self-willed in many ways. I know I am a fierce survivor of a great deal of both childhood and adult trauma, so my warrior spirit is likely to drive me as hard as it can. I get to work with tempering that every day.

The gratitude practice that I spent years researching and doing a great deal of work with has given me the basis of any and all spiritual development I enjoy today.

Isn’t life a wonderful series of events that feed and nurture our budding spiritual side? I believe so. I have been given so many tremendous opportunities to grow and develop my spirit. And they keep coming. I love that!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
