INTEGRITY MONTH: DAY 23: “Surround yourself with good people. People with purpose and passion and who value principles, integrity and loyalty.”― Carlos Wallace

I have a very small circle. There are many folks who are around the circle, but only a handful that are in the circle with me.

That is the purpose of boundaries. Those without them lack an honesty that I find necessary for my spirit to thrive. It means I weed out and allow less of the noise of the world out there. It isn’t any of my business.

When I talk to friends, I find them less than peaceful. It is hard to explain why it doesn’t serve my life, but a peaceful life is based on keeping those things outside the circle. As they fall away, I am left with a quiet mind, a quiet heart, and a peaceful life. Solo at this time, but I have shared it with others at times and it stays the same, because I maintain the same boundaries.

So many draw chaos and drama into their lives all the time. They have to have things to “care” for. This can be family, friends, animals, relatives, directing traffic in and out of their lives constantly. When I read about those who have what I seek, they are quiet and usually quiet happy with solo time to spend. I am more and more drawn to that every day. No caretaking of anyone but me and allowing others to have their lanes without needing to interface with their chaos and heaviness.

I am seldom tired from my life because I keep it light. I have few burdens because I know who is truly in charge, therefore, no real chaos or drama. When things take place, I can respond rather than react. I don’t need to call 10 people to tell them, I just handle things and then go on about my quiet days. This is what I hoped for, for so long it seems, and today it is how things are with me. What a gift…a peaceful life…so happy.

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
