INTEGRITY MONTH: DAY 24: “The less your needs, the stronger your integrity.”― Abhijit Naskar

We are not for sale when we have fewer desires. Attachment and desire are the tools of Ego. We want to have what we believe will bring us happiness, but it never does. And we cannot let go of things because we want to look a certain way or because we have a story around them.

These are the things that make us most likely to compromise our integrity and honesty. And they are the things most likely to create deep dissatisfaction within our hearts.

We compare ourselves with others and feel dissatisfied, believing they are more worthy or less worthy and have more or less than do we.

These are the tools of Ego and create so much unhappiness in our lives. We truly believe we cannot be happy until…

We lose or gain a thing, weight, a partner, …

We are done with a process, job, education, …

                We have achieved …

                We have arrived at…

So on and on it goes. People wake up one day and are 50 or 60 or 70 or…

And find that they have never been happy or felt satisfied or grateful or…

They are what the BB calls “chronic discontent ”s. It is a terrible way to be in this world, and it is around us in epic numbers…angry, resentful, unhappy people, doing horrible things to each other and themselves.

The steps have given me a path that is straight through the heart of this thing called life. I do these things and the pain is gone, the unhappiness is gone, the joy is here, and life is so damned good I cannot express it enough…thank you, thank you, thank you!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
