FAITH MONTH: DAY 29: “When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly.” ― Patrick Overton
I love this idea…flying…freedom…taking that huge leap…it is so exhilarating! Scary and unknown and unpredictable. These, to me, are the stuff of life.
How boring to settle for the same ol’, same ol’ all the time. And yet, people live for YEARS of their lives in that rut. Comfortable and safe, or so we believe. What is really going on is that we are never really living at all!
Remember how terrifying some of those things are that we do for the first time when we are young? The first date, the first job, the first time leaving home for that first adventure? It was wonderful because we are so much less paranoid when we are young. We do things because of peer pressure or other motivation. As time goes on, we are less likely to be spontaneous or courageous.
My faith gives me courage. To take big risks, to dare, to dream, to imagine, to create. The folks who sit safely on the sidelines and wish their lives away are the ones who have so many regrets at the end of it all. They took no risks with romance or travel or changing something that is worn out and used up in their lives.
They find that they didn’t live as they wished they had. My firm belief is that our dreams live in our hearts because that is where the Universal Power puts them. If they are there, then there is something that is going to allow them to happen. If not, we are none the worse for the trying.
Get off that couch and dance or fly or dream or dare or imagine! Do something you have never done before, just because you can! Go to a new place for dinner instead of all the same old places. Try something new with your hair, your car, your wardrobe. Be spontaneous! Take a BIG risk!
Let your heart and that Power take you out of your comfort zone and into the stream of LIFE! And stop whining if it isn’t what your head told you it would be. Have the experience and pay attention to the whole thing! Then decide if you want to continue doing it.
Don’t spend your time analyzing every choice into infinity…just jump! See what happens and pay the prices and get on with the next day. If you make a spectacular mess, at least you have another adventure to think about; and there are other steps we have around this recovery thing for reclaiming and cleaning up our messes.
Don’t let all your regrets for missed ideas, missed moments, missed opportunities be the only stories you have to tell about your life. Faith is the thing that keeps me here. It is the thing that promises me that I can and do have choices and opportunities and that there really is no such thing as “safety” anyway. It is all about the adventure, the ride of our lives! Mine is going to be fast and fun and furious…and I LOVE THAT!
