LOVE MONTH: DAY 25: “To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue; these five are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness.” – Confucius
Step 12 gives us the culmination of our progress in recovery. We get to stand in the miracle of having completed those things that most of us looked at, if there is a poster on the wall, and thought: “Oh, no! That is not going to happen here!”
That certainly was my thought. I could see the benefit in all that work, but had no idea it would come to be the most precious of tools in my arsenal of happiness and freedom.
Love comes to us after we have developed that relationship, not only with that Power, but also with US.
I cannot love that Power or anyone else until I love me. Then I find that what links us together is the same energy that gives me life.
And I love life, so I love the energy, so I love me, and I love the Power, and I love you. It is so amazing! The goal then is to learn how to walk through this world, free of Ego and selfishness, rid of those character defects that stand in the way of my purpose; and let ME love YOU. If I do that, I will have lived those things listed above.
I will be generous of soul, sincere, earnest and kind. I do not know about gravity, but I will believe I am grave, when it serves the purpose of that Power.
I get to have moments like this more frequently as time goes on. And they last longer. That is the way I love to walk through this life.
Many of the cultures of the world celebrate at this time of year. They gather and meet to exchange love and celebrate their kinship. Remaining in the love is the challenge.
With all the focus on material and ego-based energies, there is often more discord than peace. Most of us have come from these environments. It takes a lot of recovery to work past these energies and let go of the dysfunctional thinking that creates them.
Learning to be at peace within ourselves and not buy into the Hallmark version of what our lives should look like is a challenge that takes many to the brink of exhaustion, resentment, poverty, and violence. I wish for you a peaceful and joyous day every day. Let’s all walk in love without restrictions or rules.
