ACCEPTANCE MONTH: DAY 3: “Having a religion doesn’t make a person love or not love others. It doesn’t make a person accept or not accept others. It doesn’t make a person befriend or not befriend others.

Being without a religion doesn’t make somebody do or be any of that either.

No, what makes somebody love, accept, and befriend their fellow man is letting go of a need to be better than others.

Nothing else.”― Dan Pearce

What a perfect way to put this! There is not a single thing I would change. With or without dogma, we are only going to accept others at the level where we accept ourselves and life.

We cannot honestly accept others until we can stop railing at life and what it brings. We cannot honestly accept ourselves until we can do this. We must learn to accept everything that comes.

And we must learn to accept ourselves. Judgment comes from fear, just as do all things that are not meant for us to be and do. The Universe accepts us completely and totally. When we are living in alignment with that, we can stop trying to run the planet and just be. Fear is the monster that tells us someone is dangerous to us and acts on that idea.

Who are you listening to today? Where is your consciousness? What are you judging? Whom are you judging? We are not here to perform that task. Let it go and get on with just living your life. Let the rest be in the hands of those who are doing the same.

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
