LOVE MONTH: DAY 3: “In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”― Rumi

This quote tells the story of why I believe Step 12 is the Love Month. When we truly see inside the heart, where the Universal Power lives, we fall in love.

Not just with the Power, but with all creation. Everything that has been created by that Power and everything that will be created by that Power is LOVE. This is taught in every religious and spiritual tradition. And yet, it is the toughest to practice mindfully and skillfully.

We may love those with whom we have relationships, but most of the time, that love is very conditional. They must behave in specific ways so that we get what we want/need from them. No good!

We must first practice love with Self. If I don’t believe I am the most beloved of all God’s kids, then I cannot love you as if you were. This is the path I am here to walk and to talk about. Why? Because it is where the steps have taken me. I am that most beloved.

I love Rumi. The poetry written is all about LOVE. Big love, undying and unconditional love. And every single word is directed toward the Universal Power, the Universal Creator. Perfect. When we get to this step and have that awareness of who we truly are and how we are loved, we must pass it on in selfless service to that Power by taking care of ALL creation, in whatever ways we are given to do so. For me, it is an abiding devotion to Nature, first and foremost, along with all creatures and supporting the notion that they are no different from me. That I am NOT here to dominate or rule over anything.

I am not responsible for anything other than all my actions, period. I neither kill nor save lives. I am here to be aware and awake and mindful of what I do and how it impacts the Universe around me.

I love the idea of Power dancing inside my chest. Isn’t that lovely? I think so. I know for sure it dances, just the same as me. I dance and move a lot more than most.
