DISCIPLINE MONTH: DAY 28: “Your thoughts are powerful and hold the power of life and death. Your thoughts trigger your emotions. Learn to tame your thoughts…do not let your thoughts tame you. Learn to tame your emotions…do not let your emotions tame you.”― Kemi Sogunle

What we think about becomes our reality. There is a lot of divisiveness and controversy in people right now. I refuse to play. I allow others to express all their opinions and don’t engage. I truly do not care. I don’t buy into any of it. All Ego and fear tactics.

There are so many caught up in this dynamic. Okay. Another day, another drama. These are the same people who live like life is a soap opera anyway. Ego and drama. Yuk!

It isn’t about politics or the handling or mishandling of an epidemic or the constraints and changes that some feel are imposed on them. It is about resilience and examining what we believe. And I am NOT speaking about who you vote for or the politics of any situation. Exchanges of opinion are an incredible waste of life. Why would anyone who is supposed to be engaged on a spiritual journey take even a moment out of their day to get caught up in the web of any of it? Because it is the Ego hook of fear and everyone jumps into their version of control to tell themselves they have some power and say over what happens and can take charge of the situation. It is all a giant cosmic joke!

And we have forgotten to laugh.

Thoughts are powerful. They create disease, dysfunction, and all the delusion that exists in this world and Universe. What are you creating today? Another delusion or something wonderful to contemplate on your death bed? I have never heard anyone dying who speaks about how they wished they had been better informed or thought more or had stronger opinions and debates with others. They ALL (100%-and I have spent a lot of time with the dying!) have expressed their regret at the time they wasted when they could have done positive and loving things with their money, their time, and their lives.

What we believe becomes the life we live. If you are working to be sure you are right and taking that belief to the extent of knowing that you are righter than everyone and working to control others and life in ways that are not working, perhaps you can change your mind. What you believe creates your feelings. If you feel like shit, perhaps you might want to stop thinking shitty thoughts. Just sayin’…

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
