DISCIPLINE MONTH: DAY 26: “An apprentice starts off with the certainty that only by disciplining himself into becoming an impeccable warrior can he live his life without regrets, but by the time he has achieved warriorship, he knows beyond all controversy that impeccability of the spirit is for him his innermost predilection.”― Théun Mares

We all start from different places, with differing ideas and backgrounds, differing circumstances, etc. This is what Ego sees. The differences.

Spirit tells us that we are all connected and that all of us are here for one purpose, to further our spiritual development and growth.

We get so lost in Ego at times that this is a challenge for us to focus on. We get caught up in work and money and politics and the huge fear around everything, that we forget to look beyond the story(s) and see what Spirit is up to. We can justify and rationalize anything and everything, believing that what is going on around us is about us and that we are part of it all.

In some ways we are. We are all apprentices here, thinking we are off to do battle with the world and conquer it somehow in our own fashion. There is nothing to be conquered but our own minds, our own Ego. Nothing. No Boogey man is “out there” waiting to get us. We just buy into the hype and the story and live as if there is.

When we become trained in the art of Life, we become aware of Spirit and its power in the Universe to overcome any and all terrors. To overcome Life with a new way of being. This is the discipline. To live in spiritual principles, no matter what the screen of screaming Ego may throw at us. And in today’s world, there are screens screaming everywhere. Very addictive to play into that dynamic, but you don’t have to. Impeccability of spirit means we can all live in peace within if we choose to be truly disciplined.

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
