FREEDOM MONTH: DAY 3: “You’ll have a good, secure life when being alive means more to you than security, love more than money, your freedom more than public or partisan opinion, when the mood of Beethoven’s or Bach’s music becomes the mood of your whole life … when your thinking is in harmony, and no longer in conflict, with your feelings … when you let yourself be guided by the thoughts of great sages and no longer by the crimes of great warriors…” ― Wilhelm Reich

This quote was new for me this month. I really like it because most of my writing is about Ego vs. Spirit. This quote addresses all aspects of that duality. It speaks to me of what we are experiencing in the world around us currently as well.

We get so many lessons with the political environment today. We see Ego and Soul in direct conflict in so many ways. It is reminiscent of the 1960s and the politics of safe dissension and violence at the hands of military and police. The protests and marches of those days addressed many of the same issues, and here we are again.

What an interesting life this can be when we can sit outside Ego and fear and allow ourselves to be disconnected from the day-to-day world as much as Spirit would have us be. It speaks to the true freedom we enjoy when our Spirit is more in the lead than the Ego.

And we get to see where we are in terms of life, versus where we are in terms of others directing our particular part in it. I love this stuff!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
