FREEDOM MONTH: DAY 1: “The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest.”― John Stuart Mill

Challenging quote! I have always been bossy. When I was a little girl, I was the boss of everyone in my family. It was my method of attempting to control the environment that was toxic and abusive. It never worked, but I remained bossy.

Later in my life, I just ran from all conflict. It just got to be too painful to sit still. As I got into recovery and went to school and gained information about healing in all areas of life, I began to help others who wanted to become emotionally, spiritually, and even physically healthier. This is my journey. However, I have been known to give solutions to those with no regard to whether or not they asked me from time to time. It is not good to do this, because it can alienate that person.

If I sponsor you, do not send me a thumbs-up emoji today! I told each of you that I would get in the middle of your life because that is how I do this stuff. Nothing is sacred because recovery has no hidey-holes!

Over the years I have gotten much better at letting others make their own decisions. In fact, I walk away from those who want me to run their lives. I am here to guide you through the steps with as much love and acceptance as I have in me. That is a lot. But I will not listen to whining, complaining, self-centered bullshit. Keep it to yourself. I have my own to recover from.

That is my gift to you. I don’t care a huge amount about your feelings. Recovery is not about that shit. Some folks love to roll in the psycho-babble. I want to know what you are doing to start seeing your crap in a new perspective. Thank you Clancy, forever, for that amazing take on recovery…RIP.

You are here to get an introduction to a spiritual way of living that you don’t understand anything about.

I don’t care what you do, make your own choices. Receive your own karmic consequences. I do. Grow up and get on with it. The Universal Power that I have found is the result of MY work. Get your own! That is the whole point.

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
