COURAGE MONTH: DAY 1: “It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.”― Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Taking action is where the courage comes in. Doing nothing requires nothing. Sitting in our shit and taking no action to change our thinking or way of behaving is easy. We get used to the downward spiral of energy and life going to pieces and wonder why God is picking on us.
Hahaha! I have heard this from dozens of new members and sponsees! They are angry with God because they have made a mess of their lives. And wait expectantly for God to clean it all up. We are talking here about Step 8, which is the one where the rubber meets the road, for me. I have to become willing to clean up my own shit, not pray for God to remove it all.
If I have worked Steps 1-7 well, I know where my part is. I know what I am doing that is dysfunctional and destructive to myself and others. I see my expectations and demands from life and have a clear idea of who goes on the list. NOW, I have to be willing to change the conversation with myself that tells me that they are the assholes.
So, although I don’t care for the word TRY, I do know that failure is not a real premise, nor is success. I can either do this thing, or not do it. But the courage to DO it is the key. I like the quote because this applies in so much of life. And in every single aspect of walking a spiritual journey.
