HUMILITY MONTH: DAY 14: “But the Egotist is stuck somewhere between his hidden triad of pride, fear, and insecurity; he is forever fighting to prove himself, instigating battles the humble man has unwittingly conquered, already sealed some time ago. Yes, the day he finally accepts face-to-face such an irony as humility – the irony that humility is indeed the mother of giants, that great men, having life so large, as needed, can afford to appear small – the world will then know peace.”― Criss Jami

We have all been stuck in Ego…perhaps most of us still are. I believe that. Great change does not happen when we convince others to see our side of things.

Great change happens from within each person. Since we are here to do that, we can change only within ourselves. That is truly the source of peace and joy and happiness.

Ego is the source of friction, fear, insecurity, etc. With those is created only more of the same. No peace will come from war or fighting. Ever.

When we align ourselves with our spiritual nature and let go of Ego and all its trappings, we have no need to fight or work to change others. We can be of peace and walk a different path.

I am not here to change the world, neither is anyone else. We are here to walk a path that leads us to our own highest goals. That will create a more peaceful ME. When I do that, I let you find your path to a more peaceful YOU. Not my business, not my job.

When others ask how we gain that peace, we can model it. It isn’t in the telling. No one learns by us telling them…only by us showing them. And they must want to become other than what they are. Ego will bring them to a point of despair, just as it did for us. We thought it was the drugs and alcohol, but they are only the tools of Ego…symptoms of a malaise that is bereft of spirit. Gaining spirit makes all the tools of Ego unnecessary eventually. That IS the point!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
