HUMILITY MONTH: DAY 3: “_____ has been written about before and he will be written about again. If someone has not already said it, someone will say that he was a great man who never achieved greatness, and this will not only be trite, but wrong; he was a great man who never achieved arrogance.” ― Beryl Markham
Since this appears to be a quote from a book of some sort, I removed the name of the person being written about. It matters not what his name was.
Any of us could put our name there. It is important in Step 6 that we are willing to have our arrogance removed in order to achieve the humility we will require in Step 7.
I don’t need to be a great person to be a good person. I would rather be a good person. At the end of my days, it is not the estimation of others that I will seek, but the inner knowledge that I did what was right and good as much of the time as humanly possible. That I hope to have accomplished.
And when I didn’t, to work through the steps and clean up my messes and become willing, again and again, to see my part in anything that is not right.
There is no way I will leave here a saint, or a great person. But I hope to have become a good person, and at the very least, a better person than I was when I got to the gift of these steps. And that being in that place I remain humble and peaceful within.
