HUMILITY MONTH: DAY 2: “Be confident because you are a child of God. Be humble because everyone else is too.”― Glennon Doyle Melton

We are all here for the same purpose. All of us…no exceptions. There is nothing for us to be arrogant or proud about. And yet, Ego screams all the time that we are superior because we feel inferior, that we are smarter because we fear being less intelligent, that we are prettier because we believe ourselves to be less so, that we are better because we fear being worse, and on it goes.

When we see our real connection with all of the Universe, not just people, but the air, the water, the earth, and every other creature…we will begin to act differently toward it all. When I pollute any part of the land or water, I poison myself and cannot undo that. I must be mindful of how I walk on this Mother of mine…this beautiful and amazing planet. And how I approach, speak to, and interface with each person I encounter.

This is the work of my lifetime. I am no less, and I am no greater. I am only one of. I cannot make myself matter more than you or I harm you. I cannot make you matter more than myself or I harm myself. It is a great teaching that we all are here to learn. This beautiful connection we have to each other.

I actively have disliked people for what I believed about them. When I learn to let go of judgments and fear, I can care about others a great deal more easily. I can learn to overlook the differences and embrace their nature as one of Gods’ kids. This is a tremendous journey. I don’t know when I will get there, but I am grateful that I know this is the only destination I am here to travel toward. We are all in process of this great lesson. Let’s all play nice and be happy.

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
