I read this today and reflected for a long time. Had to test, for myself, the veracity of it. I have to dig deep on some mornings to write about things, especially hope.
It truly is not with me when the world is my oyster, which is almost all the time these days. It came when I lived through tough times, times of being alone and afraid. Why is it that those times are so deeply immersed in my feelings of being alone? Well, because when I think I am alone, I am. Why? Ego tells the story and I buy into it and hold onto it. We are never truly alone, and all of us know this in our spirit/heart center.
Fear is the greatest tool of Ego, so that happens too. During those times, “adversity” as this quote states, we listen to Ego, looking for answers it swears it can provide, but it never has and never will. That is not the function of Ego. Its only function is to solve life and death situations by creating “fight or flight” responses. Sadly, every time we allow Ego to set the stage, we become frightened. It only has one function and one response to everything in life.
It works best by telling us that it is the only voice to listen to. There is NO HOPE in Ego. Ever! Step 2 is all about being “restored to sanity.” That is learning to stop relying on Ego to teach us how to live life. It tells us we are always alone and cannot rely on others and should not even like them…they are out to get us. OMG! What a story it has…same one every time. And we are so linked into it that we do not see the lie.
There is ALWAYS hope. Always. And nothing in this world truly threatens our survival. Really. Life is a temporary situation at best. So, any threats to us are only threats to Ego. When we are living in Ego, with all the trappings it loves best; money, too much work, too much of everything, we are blind to hope and do not need it. Ego solved it for us. Smoke screens everywhere! So, we have to lose all of that to go back to the Spirit, Heart, Soul where we are designed to live. And the function of that is greater than Ego. Because there is NO story, no problem, no threat; just this moment, being all perfect and even more perfect. Life is beautiful and hope is in our hearts all the time. We are created like that.
