FAITH MONTH: DAY 29: “No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.” ― R.A. Salvatore

I like this quote for its magical feeling. I love magic and feel the same way the author does. It would be a very dull and unimaginative world without magic and dragons and fairies, etc. I believe in all of them. I believe in great possibility and love and romance and all of that, too.

I insist on reading fairy tales all the time. Maybe it is my Celtic nature, because so many of them come from this culture. But, I know that there have been these stories in all cultures, around the world, since the beginning of time. We have all been introduced to the idea of magic in many different ways since we were born.

Then some of us have become cynical and bound to ideas that live only in what is visible or knowable. That is so limiting! What about the magic of a tiny, tiny seed that becomes a plant, a flower, or even a tree? That feels like magic to me, even though I plant thousands of them each year and see the results. It never fails to amaze me and fill me with wonder and awe. I love it!

My gardens are always filled with magic and wonder and beauty. I insist on having those things all around me, all the time. I love the gardens of the world; forests, beaches, all the places where we find life going on all the time.

What a sad world if we did not believe we could see a magical creature around any corner or by just looking up at the sky. What would it be like to have lost all sense of wonder and beauty and awe. Well, there really are a lot of people who do not have this sense of life in them. You see them all around…staring into the empty, vapid faces of their cell phones all the time. Living always in houses or cars, never experiencing the natural world around them.

I have faith in the world, in life itself, to correct and balance all that is wrong. I see it in Nature, and I see it in people. I see it in the healing we are allowed to pursue here in recovery. I see it whenever a person fights their former bad attitudes, diets, lack of exercise and their bodies and spirits revive and rejuvenate. I see it when we have water after a long drought and the world around us bounces back to abundant life and thriving. It is beautiful and magical, every time.
