FAITH MONTH: DAY 6:

“The Simple Path

Silence is Prayer

Prayer is Faith

Faith is Love

Love is Service

The Fruit of Service is Peace” ― Mother Teresa

I love that this is the Simple Path. I understand that prayer is faith…why pray if we don’t believe in someone or something that can respond?

My early prayers were not that. I used to dare Universal Power to change or shift something…kind of like the character is Jesus Christ Superstar…he played Pontius Pilate…and sang the song about walking across his swimming pool.

I loved that when I first heard it. I wanted some kind of evidence, which is the absolute opposite of faith. And I really love that all of my dares were taken and answered. I dared Power to keep me sober, and here I am…still there. Then I felt miserable in that early time of recovery, so I worked these steps with a vengeance. Now I have a rich and powerful spiritual experience. All the time…every day.

I love that too! I have been recognized and now I just think that Power is showing off a great deal some days…lol.

And I feel and have Love…a gift from Faith. And I perform Service…all the time. (Step 12…in action!) And I am peaceful most all the time, every day. See how this unfolds?

A wonderful life, and I will NEVER, EVER come close to Mother Teresa or her work. But my faith is surely a great and wonderful thing. At least I think so…it feels great and wonderful to be just me, full of Faith and Hope and all these wonderful principles. They live and breathe in my life all the time. I truly am God’s favorite kid.

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
