ACCEPTANCE MONTH: DAY 7: “Sometimes people let the same problem make them miserable for years when they could just say, So what. That’s one of my favorite things to say. So what.” ― Andy Warhol
I learned this when I went to EST, then again when it turned into Landmark Forum and I attended one training there. It was the only thing of value I took away with me.
There is tremendous value in letting a newer member rant on and on about their problems and woes and difficulties and then saying to them, “So what!” (I have even done this to a few older members who were ranting on and on like a newcomer!)
It stops the insanity of their ego, which is fully locked and loaded with drama and their story. So what? Really! So what?
Even those of us who are advanced in age and have 60 or 70 or 80 years of story need to remember….so what? There is nothing in the story about today. It is all the crap you have deduced from life so far.
Let it all go. It is just some stupid story you are making up. If you can stand away from it, there is another whole story for you to live into…not look back on.
I watched a movie about this last night. There was a young man who had held on to a damage done to his family for over 20 years. When he got to meet the man who he blamed for this horrible “wrong”, he found out the man was only a human, but a good human, who had made a bad mistake.
Those of us here have all come to this time and space being less than stellar actors on the human stage, and yet we hold on to the old shit like it was pure gold. We have blame and shame and guilt and rage to deal with. Then, we lay it all down and walk away from those things and move into the stream of life. The only thing that can hold us back and keep us from living well are the old ideas and stories we cling to like life preservers. In fact, they are the anchors that keep us from swimming away to begin with.
Let’s move into the stream of life today. Lay down the shit and the stories and the wah, wah, wah that you are clinging to and move into life. It is beautiful and free and joyful when you choose to just say “so what?” Be just a bit more like Andy Warhol and do that all day today!
