GRATITUDE MONTH: DAY 12: “…when you come right down to it, there are only four basic prayers. Gimme! Thanks! Oops! And Wow!…Wow! are prayers of  praise and wonder at the creation. Oops! is asking for forgiveness. Gimme! is a request or petition. Thanks! is expressing gratitude.”  —  Marc Gellman

Isn’t this a great quote? And SOOOO true? I loved it. Read it recently in a book a friend loaned me. It was not related to gratitude, but I loved the truth of this!

I want to live in continuous Wow! And Thanks! That is the goal for me. I have spent enough of my life in Oops! and Gimme! It did not serve my soul, only fed the Screaming Purple Monkeys (SPM) who are NEVER satisfied, cannot be satisfied and do not serve anything except the building up of my ISM.

What a great illustration of the spiritual principles vs. disease progression.

Oh yeah! I do not know the context of this quote, and did not spend the time to find its origin, but I really love that this person, Mr. Gellman, thinks the way I do, in exclamation points and one-word prayers. So cool.

This may become one of my go-to quotes now. I am not sure. When I find a new one that really resonates with me, it becomes my new favorite, until the next one. One of the lovely things about doing this writing is the brilliant works of others that I would not necessarily otherwise have given myself access to by researching quotes and sayings to use for the writings.

I am so incredibly in love with words and how they are used in this world that I am eternally grateful to those authors who have fed my soul and spirit over the years. Writings are the food that I grew up being addicted to. The worlds of words and images created in books, poems, and writings of all types.

My first addiction was reading…everything! I would read cereal boxes to everyone at breakfast. It is one of the most amazing skills I have ever been taught. I love it! The worlds that I have explored and learned about! Wow!

Thanks! I had forgotten how deeply grateful I am to those who write and what I have gained from their work. Since I write these little pages each day, I understand the devotion, time and commitment it takes to do this little bit. A whole book? A whole bunch of books? Wow! Thanks!

Libraries…isn’t that an amazing concept? They are becoming extinct. I see first edition books for sale in very reduced pricing. Sad, but I get it. Moving the way I do, books are a burden, but one I kept relocating for many years. Today, all but a precious few are gone from my life. No room in my last home. The same with music. I could write another whole page (or 100) about them both. Loves of my life. Wow! Thanks! I think I am going to have fun with those two prayers today….yeah…

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
