COURAGE MONTH: DAY 17: “Don’t try to understand life. Live it! Don’t try to understand love. Move into love. Then you will know – and all that knowing will come out of your experiencing. The more you know, the more you know that much remains to be known.” ― Osho
We love to analyze and “understand” which are both tools of ego. Ego needs to “get it” and make it all have meaning. Sometimes it will be years before we know why something happened or why it hurt our feelings or why we are so crazy sometimes.
Meanwhile, we are missing sunsets and sunrises and humming birds and butterflies and hawks and eagles and rivers and forests and oceans and love and opportunities to be ALIVE! This is why I got into recovery. I knew I was missing out on life itself.
Although I had tons of education and was very smart, it did not matter, because I did not know how to live. How to walk out of my door and get into life without needing all the technology, the extra padding of “stuff.” Things, possessions, busy-ness, running here and there are not ways we live life, they are ways we hide.
Living life is walking in the woods, walking on the beach, sitting still with someone and listening without needing to talk back. Being present, really-really present, without having answers or questions or concerns or craziness. Just being present to life…showing up with no expectations and no excuses and no stories…just being there and feeling what is happening. No agendas, no running off to go and “do” something else, just being.
Breathing and sitting still. Letting the Purple Screaming Monkees rant and rant until they are quiet and not playing with the shit they throw at you. Ah! Peace! Serenity. It isn’t about a quiet space away from others or a sanctuary far from the crazy crowds. It is that space inside that can be gone into even in the middle of that.
Letting go of the world and material existence, being with self and Creator and loving that above all else. This is what the heart needs to heal. No other recipe can heal our broken hearts and lives.
The more you love your heart and the Power that lives there, the more love you have to take into that crazy world when you return. It is all about learning to love your heart, not your ego. Love doesn’t need a retreat, it needs recognition and allowing. Acceptance and kindness are the things we must give to our own heart before we can offer them to another or receive them from another.
These are the things our souls are hungry for…quiet acceptance of life. Peace with what is…not fighting what is going on or trying with all our might to make it different. We can’t…it won’t work…let go, move into the space where life is meeting you and be there…just be there. Yes!
