GRATITUDE MONTH: DAY 27: “Sometimes you have to feel grateful for what you have, see the good, and only the good. We only have one life. One chance for happiness. And sometimes we forget that we can actually choose whether we want joy or cynicism. Let’s pick joy.” ― Jennifer Ryan

We get to pick how our lives unfold. We can either believe and allow Ego to rule our lives, or we can allow and listen to Spirit. When we are actively participating in Ego, we are miserable, because Ego brings only problems and trouble and drama to our lives.

It has only one function, to solve problems. So Ego creates problems out of thin air. In the world as it is today, Ego is going rampant! Fear and problems and anger are all around. We can see how the media do an incredible job of stirring up more of each of these. For some reason, Ego says that we must “know” all the information and be well-informed about the state of the world. Interesting, but totally untrue.

Spirit always knows all the truth that exists for us. Always. And that changes only inasmuch as we need to actually change who we are. For so many lifetimes, there was no media, and people lived closer to each other and the natural world without all the drama, chaos, and Ego we see today. What a lovely thing to do. I strive every day to do less and less with technology. I need to know so little of what is perpetuated as vital information. I find that life is simpler and happier; and my time is made more valuable by what I can spend it on that feeds my soul, rather than my ego. Beautiful!

I see only what is absolutely pertinent to my life. Really pertinent. And SO much is not. A great test of what we want to bring into our lives….Does it feed  your Spirit? Does it serve your Soul? Does it have any value that will last more than this day? Most of the time, the answer to most of these questions is NO. So then we are truly choosing happiness over Ego. Yay! Choosing big JOY today!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
