GRATITUDE MONTH: DAY 25: “Grateful people generate a higher vibration, and a stronger energy because they run on love and awareness that life is a true gift.”― Toni Sorenson
You know when you meet a happy person. They shine a bit brighter; they have an infectious energy and joy that others are drawn to.
I remember feeling this from a woman I met a few years ago. She was smiling no matter what came down. She was not phony about it, but had such a Zen quality to her personality that I loved being in her presence. One day we were talking, and she said that she loved being near me for the same reason. How lovely is that? We both talked about how we view the hardships that had come into our lives in our youth and how we were given so much grace to learn to view them all as gifts. That life was precious and miraculous, no matter what came down.
I love that! She is a dear person in my life, and I am so grateful for her. We don’t see each other much these days, but when we do meet up on social media, it feels like a love fest.
I remember my main sponsor’s husband, who had over 35 years of sobriety when he died. He was in a wheelchair and used oxygen all the time to breathe. But every time I saw him, he had the same response when asked how he was…”I never had it so good.” I remember thinking, “Geez old man…you don’t look like it.” But I did not know then what I know now. He was right.
We are living a gifted life. Not many know this or show this. Too bad. It is delightful to be with those who know the gift. And show the gift. Not just the talk, but the twinkle in the eye. The joy of being sober and alive!
This is a great quote, because I doubt that the author knows about 12 steps or how they can impact us. If I look at Step 11 and REALLY practice it, I cannot help but be happy. Because I have to remember that prayer means to continuously celebrate my relationship with that Power by saying THANK YOU…all day, every day. And that meditation puts me in the heart space to walk with that attitude. Yay God!
