GRATITUDE MONTH: DAY 12: “True happiness is not money in the bank nor a luxurious home,

True happiness is a forgiving heart filled with love and gratitude.”― Charmaine J. Forde

I love this quote. I remember reading or hearing things like this at various times in my life. It is not until we experience these things that they really sit in our hearts with the ring of truth.

I got to celebrate the love of a friend of mine yesterday with his new wife. It was so wonderful to see their joy and happiness with each other. They have very little in the way of resources, but their lives are so filled with love and happiness together. What a great lesson!

And it takes me back to the times in my relationship with my husband. When we both got together, I had a great job and made good money for a single woman, but it was a challenge for both of us to live on that income with some of the things that we had to walk through then. We made it work and were very happy. Just before we got married he inherited money from his mother who died and a change in his status with a claim to the VA; then we had a whole new lifestyle that was much easier financially.

It never changed our love or our happiness. In the world today, so many people are chasing money rather than life. I find this to be sad. Trust me, I know what broke looks like. But I have never been poor. And my heart has been full, no matter what my economic status is. There is ALWAYS something, usually

MANY things, to be grateful for. And the less I chase money, the more happiness I find in life. Gratitude is about all of life, and the more I focus on the gifts from Creator, the greater it grows. Money cannot bring me joy or peace or love. It And I truly value those things the most. What a great thing this recovery process is

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
