HOPE MONTH: DAY 21: “Happiness is always there. You just have to choose to see it. There’s no point dwelling in the dark and ignoring the light of the stars.”― Carrie  Fletcher

What we focus on will become our reality. When I focus on my troubles, my problems, my fear, there is nothing else in the world.

I am quite capable of destroying my life while sitting in a chair, not moving a muscle except my mind. It happens all the time to us when we are stuck in our own minds. Ego tells us terrible stories of dark and horrible worlds. We move right in and live there!

OR…we let Ego go and move into a space where we see all the beauty in the world and in our lives. We get to choose.

Hope is the thing that impels us to keep going, even when we believe there is nothing to go for or toward. That is the promise of something better around the next curve or in the next moment or breath. It is given to us as a great gift of our humanity. Great gift!

Step 2 gives me the promise of help from a Power to gain a higher vision of my life. The changes that are wrought from stopping my addiction in its tracks are awesome! Then I get to live without needing those crutches that crippled me in the first place. Why? How?

By knowing that Infinite Power is on my side. By seeing that I am the one who is not able to create anything good without plugging into that Power…that Creative Force that exists in all the most beautiful things I have ever known. I am blown away by that reality and existence!

I can be happy whenever I want, no matter what stories are being told by the monster Ego. It has never created Joy or Happiness or Love in my life. And being restored to sanity is seeing the truth of which Power creates these things in my life and which one does not. What a great thing that is!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
