COURAGE MONTH: DAY 7: “Being terrified but going ahead and doing what must be done—that’s courage. The one who feels no fear is a fool, and the one who lets fear rule him is a coward.” ― Piers Anthony

We don’t have any choice in the matter. Life must be lived…every minute of every day. All of it. There are those who hide from life, some never come out of their homes or leave the sanctity of the environment where they feel “safe.”

Truth is this…there is NO such thing as safe. We are going to be hurt, and we will be stronger for the hurt. We are here to learn how to transcend that fear (EGO!…Screaming Purple Monkeys…SPM) and to move forward against the resistance that only we create.

Sometimes people tell me that they are moving through pain of change. There is also no such thing as that either. Pain is only created when we resist life.

Change is all life consists of. There is nothing else. If you are doing life that doesn’t change, you are NOT doing life.

Being alive means we can live in fear created by Ego or we can live in the spirit of the Universal Power that creates life every second…every minute…every hour, to be something brand new…all the time. There is nothing created by that Power except change.

We may be afraid or tell ourselves some BS story about why we are afraid, but there is no failure except not living. Would you rather fail at some silly task in life or fail to live altogether? So many of us are doing the latter. How sad.

As for me, I am on my way out the door…gonna grab two or ten handfuls of this thing called life and go for it ALL! See ya!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
