INTEGRITY MONTH: DAY 13: “There can be a cost to acting on one’s principles, but there is a bigger cost to abandoning them.” ― Jane Philpott

We will pay prices for how we live. There is no question about that. We carry these things in our hearts, in our bones and in every muscle of our body.

Our stories are carried in our physical and spiritual body. We will walk with them in our psyche and for the lifetime with which we are here. We may believe the costs are “out there” somewhere in the physical universe, but they are internalized and stored in US.

That is what Karma is; the ongoing and recurring nature of all we do. It stays with our souls from one life to the next. But, we create and relive our karma from this life over and over. That is why we get the events in our lives that most serve our growth and development. There is no other reason. We don’t have to believe in this…it just IS.

No matter what you believe about the nature of Universal Power, it is there. It is not waiting for you to believe and embrace it. You are living with it every moment, even when you are not in alignment with it or believe it to be true. That spirit is working for you, even when you are least likely to be in agreement with its existence…perhaps most especially then. No matter.

Lining up with the identity of your spiritual self is the deal. We are here to do THAT. Every single person here came here for THAT. Nothing more, nothing less. It does not matter your financial situation, your status of marriage, your sexual preferences. None of it. It is about who you are here to be and how you walk within that space.

Intentions are great, but do not change or alter your personal journey. It is ALL about what you do and how you do it. If you are a great person in some aspects but living without a moral compass when it comes to being honest, you are not that great a person.

This is why we derive no sense of peace, even when we are doing good work in some areas, but living in deceit and faking it all the time. Our people pleasing is not authentic. We are not living from our heart. It is only then that we believe we will be penalized for telling the truth…our truth. There is no other way. If we are being false in one area, we are false in every area. Pretending to be good is not being good. It is a lie.

We have to be straight up and down with the Universe, not trying to get away with what is not real. If not, we are going to pay the price for our dishonesty and BS. It will not allow us to live at peace with ourselves or anyone else. Our souls know what is true and not true. We must be able to be at peace with our hearts and souls; no matter what the world may think. An inside job…always will be…

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
