FAITH MONTH: DAY 18: “To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.

Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.” ― Thomas Merton

This is my life today…all of this quote. I woke up to new wonder and praise of the goodness of the Power of this magnificent Universe, knowing I am celebrating another perfect day of life.

It is my most favorite day of the year, because I become renewed each year on this day and let the world around me know that I am sober and clean for 33 years today!

This is all grace, nothing more. I have done a tremendous amount of opening and shifting my ideas and purposefully working through these steps over and over. But that is a privilege and a gift…all Grace!

I love my life and the people who teach me so well. Every one of them. I am not inclined toward this kind of life because of the disease of my Ego that tells me I am a piece of shit and then lives into that. You folks told me I was God’s kid and I began to live into that. It changes everything.

What an incredible journey this faith thing brings us to and on. It is beautiful and magical and healing, and I am blessed by it all. My faith grows every time I say thank you for my life to you and you and you, and most of all to that Power that gifts me with ongoing miracles and blessings!

I am a therapist and counselor with long-term recovery from addictions and personal trauma. My writing reflects these experiences and the road I have traveled in 12-Step recovery settings, along with the work I have done for over 30 years in the field. My love of dolphins includes the stories of them being healers in places all over the world. I long to offer every broken spirit and body the experience of a healing hug. May my words and stories inform, uplift and delight your spirit and soothe your weary heart.
