HUMILITY MONTH: DAY 4: “Authentic greatness involves doing great things and then saying that I had nothing to do with it because God had everything to do with it. Anything else is my ego on a bender.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough
This is a challenge for most of us. I am better every day at knowing my skills and talents are God-given. I have always known that on a deep level. Acknowledging that, not so much.
What we do is the expression of our relationship with that Universal Power. How we do it is the expression of our familiarity of the Will of that Power. This is a mantra I strive to use. It is easy when the sun is shining, and the sky is smiling on me.
The less comfortable I am in the circumstances of my life, the more challenging I find this. I am quite happy to give Power credit when I make a mess of things…hahaha…aren’t we all? I know we all want a fall guy to blame when things don’t go according to plan.
I know that anything that requires me to step outside my comfort zone or the boundaries of what I am familiar with is going to be infused with that Universal Power, because I ask for that kind of help all day, every day. I am pretty good at recognizing when it has been working through me as well.
When I don’t give the full credit is when I am using skills that have served me for many years. Working with others, doing the kind of work I do, and creating the materials I work with. I take it for granted that, after 30 plus years of this work, I know how to do it well.
While I was very clear on the true Source for many years, I tend to accept credit for it now. That is something I have to be more mindful about.
Most of us have average lives, without a lot of opportunities to consider the things we do as great. However, we all get to have opportunities to touch others with our work, with our lives, with our experiences, and with our presence. How we do this is important and impactful.
As full as life can be, it is my experience that our average lives, lived well, add up to a greatness that we may never know about. There are going to be moments of import in every life, and it is up to us to recognize the hand of Divine intervention in those times when they come.
It is all, of course, pure Grace. This I know on a very deep level. Every breath, every moment, a gift that is given. May I mindfully and graciously open each and every one and remember to say THANK YOU!!!
