ACCEPTANCE MONTH: DAY 10: “We awaken by asking the right questions. We awaken when we see knowledge being spread that goes against our own personal experiences. We awaken when we see popular opinion being wrong but accepted as being right, and what is right being pushed as being wrong. We awaken by seeking answers in corners that are not popular. And we awaken by turning on the light inside when everything outside feels dark.” ― Suzy Kassem
Dark times inside ourselves can be opened to the light. I believe that we are here to heal, ourselves and then each other. There are too many people who think they are here to heal others when they have not yet healed themselves. I see this in recovery and in the world at large.
Recovery is a gathering for the wounded souls who are not yet in a healing process. We come together and meet in order to strengthen our resolve and see the possibility of the healing we need to do. I cannot heal another person until I have some for myself. There is no way to do this work if I am afraid of my own darkness.
Awakening, as described in this quote, is one thing. We must recognize that there are many, many ways of walking through this world and accept that what we believe and what we have experienced is OUR path thus far. It is a perfect path, and no wrong turns have been made. If we choose to stay on this path and not open ourselves to other possibilities, we are not wrong for that choosing.
It may conflict with what others want us to do, but it is up to us to live with those consequences of what we choose. Accept that you are living with the consequences of your choices and that this is the perfect outcome of life.
We don’t understand these things, but we must live with that. We may not like what is happening in our lives, but we do get to choose how we respond to what is happening. That is always our choice, every time.
Awakening is important, because we get to see how that works in our world. We get to see who we are and what we do and how that feels and what it REALLY looks like. Not the fantasy that we have created in our minds to tell ourselves a story that makes us the princess or the prince.
I want to be aware and conscious of what it is I am doing. I have walked through the world like a robot for too many years, bouncing from one thing to the next. Without knowing that NOT making choices is also a choice. I want to see things in ways that resonate with my spirit instead of fighting to get my way all the time, even when it feels like it matters to be right.
It has never served to keep myself in darkness. It has never served to hide from the Universe. And I don’t want to do anything that feels like going backwards. We are moving all the time, either toward healing or away from it. There is no sitting still, and that is something I remind myself of every day.
