GRATITUDE MONTH: DAY 8: “When you are grateful, fear disappears, and abundance appears.” ― Anthony Robbins
Most of us addicts are going to take exception to this statement. We tend to believe that abundance is about money and wealth. It is NOT!
What abundance is: Happiness, freedom, ENOUGH, recovery, life, breath, whatever beauty we can see in the world around us, opportunities for healing, love, air, water, food, ONE DAY AT A TIME, our needs are met, health, and SO MUCH MORE!
Whatever I focus on will grow. Whatever grows will fill my life.
Gratitude kills fear and lack and anxiety and pain. I cannot sit with that negative focus on what I don’t have if I am focused on what is all around me. It is impossible.
What must happen, to make it actually work, is the physical act of putting a pen in my hand and writing until I feel the shift in my brain. My brain is broken. If you do not know this, you are acting in an illusion. Not a big surprise, addiction loves illusion, ego loves illusion.
If ego and addiction are your constant companions, your life is going to suck. Fact. If you do some simple work to shift that dynamic, you will be happier. Fact.
If your focus is on life and all that you possess, you will find that there is so much, you bounce around your days with a full and happy heart. I know this, I do it every day!
And I have plenty to cry about if that is what I want to look at. But I do not. Why not? I am not able to resolve ANYTHING in my life by focusing on it. Only by focusing on what is right and good and abundant and that for which I can only say THANK YOU! can I shift my attitude.
The choice is up to you. As the old saying in AA goes: “If you like what you are getting, keep doing what you are doing.” Implied therein is: “And if you don’t, do something you haven’t done.” Got it? Okay! Let’s get on with a happy life!
