COURAGE MONTH: DAY 7: “Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” ― Rumi
YES!! I love how we transform the story here in this deal. I love that the story is so altered that we cannot recognize the beginning during the middle and especially the end of the story. By the time we meet some of the folks coming into this deal, their lives are so different we would not recognize who and what they were when they came in. By the time they are ending their journey, it is almost impossible to see even a glimpse of who they used to be and how they used to be.
We change here, part of that is due to aging and those changes, but we change so much in our lifestyles and habits and behaviors, as well. What a gift it is to rewrite the story, over and over again, as we grow in understanding and acceptance of who we are and how that needs to shift so we can better fit ourselves for a life of recovery and service and love.
I sat with someone yesterday and got to actually see the shift. This happens from time to time with those that I am deeply involved and it was awesome! To see that physical, emotional and mental shift from intellect to spiritual is wonderful. I know how that feels…the whole body shifts…all of our energy shifts…a spiritual awakening is happening. And we are forever changed.
This persons’ story didn’t change, but their beliefs about the story changed. That is all that we need…a shift in consciousness and awareness cause a spiritual breakthrough to occur. But it takes a lot of pain before that happens most of the time.
To be witness to this experience is as great as having one, at least to me. To be that connected to a lovely human who is suffering one moment and having a spiritual “ah-hah” moment the next is a gift that never ends.
When we shift our awareness of our story and get that it is all spiritual, whether we believe it or not, we are given everything we need to shift our lives into a new paradigm. Some folks may stay around here a long time without that event and not drink or use, but they don’t make the shift in the same ways. I am grateful for the big shifts. For me, they are essential to the way I live and want to continue living. This life is the best high I have ever had…and all I want is more!
