HOPE MONTH: DAY 23: “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.” ― John Lennon

And, so, from the poet of a generation (or two). I have always wondered how challenging it must have been for a man so devoted to peace and love to find so little of that in his lifetime.

But, as the saying goes, “teachers teach what they most need to learn.” And none of us, it seems, is exempt from this. We all, as spiritual beings, strive for spiritual principles to make our lives work more comfortably.

Addicts seem to be the most in need of that particular type of ego-smashing the BB talks about. I certainly am! And this means I must fully and completely line up my behaviors and lifestyle with those things I most want to embrace.

I am certain I have shown myself to be an idiot (spiritually) on so many occasions! And yet, I feel myself to be walking a very spiritual path today. So, the journey has probably informed many who watched the progression of this walk unfold.

They are probably quite excited to see that I am not living how I once did, although my crazy SPM are always telling me I should live more often in their realm of fear and terror.

So, yes, I too am a dreamer. I believe we all are. I am enjoying watching, today, some of the manifestation being brought about by our current political climate.

We are beginning to challenge our own and others’ assumptions about life. We are questioning the status quo and demanding a shift in the way things are being talked about now. When we are not stirred up and working to overcome these things, we are complacent and lazy. That is changing a great deal. If change is truly what this regime is all about, there is a wonderful sense of possibility and brotherhood being fostered to stand up to the kinds of changes being discussed. How interesting that all is.

Only in the face of great wrong does this kind of work happen. When we see that things we have taken for granted are threatened, we get off our fat butts and begin to work to keep them. That is human nature. It takes this kind of action for success to occur.

There was a lot of conversation about all the wrongs coming when elections were over. Today I see the tremendous benefits that occur when we don’t like something or when we are working to retain something that is possibly being removed that we had forgotten we want. Action is happening that is long overdue. All this is good!

I sincerely doubt the world will ever live as one. That concept is, in my thinking, completely unrealistic and a great deal too simplistic. I don’t want the rest of the world to think the way I think. That would create a vacuum that would empty my thoughts and beliefs into a giant tub of yuk. Not exciting or enlivening at all.

Creation is about the variety and complexity of all people. If we truly embrace diversity, then we must allow and accept, not only the current political beliefs, but also ALL of them. I love how people will fight for diversity and then get up in arms when a different idea about it is introduced. Controversy makes us stand in our space and own those things we believe and become devoted to them, rather than giving them lip service. The world needs opposition, not war or fighting; but variety and challenges to our routine process.

As an observer of human interaction, this is the greatest thing to learn to accept. We all get to have an idea, an opinion, a way of believing. They do NOT have to be the same, in fact, the differences, for me, are the interesting part. You will teach me and I will teach you. If we can remain calm and less ego-attached to them.

My hope is that. That we can sit and discuss, even debate, and learn from one-another without fighting or ugliness. We all come away from that with an enlarged idea of the same concept that we embraced before we sat down. Let’s try it today and see what we can learn. It is a good thing, a great thing!
